4 Tips for Protecting Your Car’s New Paint Job

When you invest in a paint job for your vehicle, you want it to look beautiful for as long as possible. By taking some basic precautions, you can help to keep your paint job optimally protected. But if your paint job does become scratched or otherwise damaged, you’ll want to have the repairs done ASAP so that rust doesn’t get the chance to take hold. At Pro-Masters Auto Collision & Hail Center, our local body shop provides flawless auto paint repair in the greater Pueblo, CO area. Here are four ways to protect your car’s paint job.
Regular Washing
Ideally, you’ll wash your car on a weekly basis, which will remove debris that could damage the paint job. In particular, it’s important to wash away bird droppings, which are highly acidic and can quickly damage the paint. When hand-washing your vehicle, be sure to use non-abrasive washing materials, such as synthetic microfiber washing mitts, so that you don’t risk scratching the paint as you wash.
Wax
While some people wax more often, it’s recommended that you wax your vehicle at least every three months. This will add a layer of protection against a variety of harmful pollutants that could damage your paint job, such as tree sap, bird droppings, dust, bugs, and salt.
Park in the Garage
UV rays can degrade your paint job, so it’s best to park in a garage whenever possible. By parking in the garage, your car’s paint job will also be protected from bird droppings and tree sap—and will also be less likely to get scratched by passersby.
Be Selective when Parking in Public
That parking spot close to the entrance of the store might be tempting, but it also might put you tightly squeezed between two other vehicles, which heightens the risk of someone carelessly swinging their door open into the side of your car and damaging your paint job. By parking in the less crowded areas further back, this is less of a risk. Also, it’s a good idea to avoid parking directly under trees, power lines, or building ledges where birds are congregating. If you park in such an area, you could find quite the mess when you return to your vehicle.
